"Such a harmonious and deep unity of mind, feelings, and polished piano technique should be called Outstanding Mastery," wrote the newspaper "Literature and Art" after the pianist's concert.
Yuri Spigin is an experimental pianist, Doctor of Pedagogy, who has given concerts in Latvia, France, Estonia, Georgia, Moldova, Lithuania, Poland, and Finland with musical programs of various styles: from old classics to works by contemporary composers.
While teaching at various times at the Jāzeps Mediņš College of Music, the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, and Liepāja University, he performed a lot of chamber music: he played in ensembles with cellist Eleonora Testelets (a graduate of M. Rostropovich), the Riga Quartet, violinist Uldis Sprūdžs, opera singers, and made music with the conductor of the Latvian National Opera, Leonīds Vīgners, and the conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, Neeme Järvi, among others.
Constantly in search of new forms of music-making, styles, and themes, composing his own works, Yuri Spigin conceived, is currently performing, and offers a series of concerts under the general title "Dreams of the 20th Century."
In it, the pianist has combined the best achievements of classical and jazz pianism. Yuri Spigin, being a theorist and practitioner of the art of improvisation, performs both his own works and themes from film music loved by a wide audience, enriched by his own professional pianistic manner of improvisation, about which the newspaper wrote: "In the pianist's performance, brilliant, filigree piano technique, natural enthusiasm, and emotionality are combined with the scale of his temperament."
